Bloomward, including its software, simulation, scenarios, species accounts, concept cards, field journal, artwork, sound, music, text and design, is © 2026 SeriousPixel, LLC, doing business as SeriousPlay Games. The Game's landscapes, plants and insects are drawn by its own code as you play, and all of its sound and music is synthesized in your browser. It uses the fonts already on your device and no stock images, sound libraries or recordings.
Open-source software
The Game is built with these libraries, used under the MIT License. Their full license texts ship with the Game.

Quotations in the margins
The short passages that appear in the margins of the Game are quoted, without changes, from books published before 1929 whose authors, translators and editors all died more than 70 years ago, so they are in the public domain in the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union. An ellipsis (…) marks a cut. Passages from the King James Version are short quotations, which UK Crown rights in that text allow freely. Each passage names its author and source in the Game.
The passages come from the works of Gerard Manley Hopkins (ed. Robert Bridges), Christina Rossetti, William Wordsworth, John Keats, John Clare (ed. Arthur Symons), Emily Dickinson (ed. Mabel Loomis Todd and T. W. Higginson), Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, Rabindranath Tagore, Charles Darwin, Sir John Lubbock, Gilbert White, Maurice Maeterlinck (tr. Alfred Sutro) and J.-H. Fabre (tr. Alexander Teixeira de Mattos and Bernard Miall); from the King James Version and the Jewish Publication Society's 1917 translation of the Hebrew Bible; and from translations by F. Max Müller (the Dhammapada), E. H. Palmer and J. M. Rodwell (the Qur'an), E. H. Whinfield (Rumi), James Legge (Laozi), Herbert A. Giles (Zhuangzi), Basil Hall Chamberlain (Bashō and other haiku poets) and Lafcadio Hearn (Issa).
Natural history
The Game's species accounts, concept cards and journal notes were written for the Game from published research and natural-history references, and each one records its sources. Facts themselves aren't owned by anyone; the wording is ours.
